The name of the official holiday "May 24 - Day of Bulgarian education and culture and the Slavic script" has been replaced by "May 24 - Day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and the Slavic letters," the Bulgarian parliament has decided.

MP Georgi Gokov from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has commented that the amendment cannot be implemented through changes in the Labour Code.
MP Milen Mihov from the United Patriots party, who was among the authors of the proposed change, said the BSP's position coincided with a statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Slavic script came from Macedonian lands.
It is an indisputable fact that the Bulgarian contribution to the Cyrillic alphabet has been systematically attacked by Russia and Macedonia, commented Toma Bikov from the ruling GERB party, BTA reported.
