World-famous opera singer Kamen Chanev passed away at the age of 56, BNR - Stara Zagora has reported. Chanev was diagnosed with Covid-19 and taken to the hospital in Stara Zagora for treatment. After his hospitalization, the singer's friends were urgently looking for convalescent blood plasma for his treatment.
Chanev was the most successful Bulgarian tenor with an international career. He was a soloist at the National Opera and Ballet in Sofia and the Prague Opera. He performed in Bulgaria and on the biggest opera stages in Europe, Asia and the United States, including the Vienna State Opera and Arena Di Verona.
Born in the town of Sliven, he graduated from the French Language High School there. He continued his studies at the Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music in Sofia and then the Boris Christoff Academy in Rome.
In one of his latest interviews for the Bulgarian National Radio, the tenor said, "Despite my work across the world, whenever I am free, I come and sing in Bulgaria. I think the best audience is here. The Bulgarian audience can feel it when you immerse yourself in the music".
