Christians in Bulgaria celebrate Day of St. Catherine - patron saint of mothers

Today the Bulgarian Orthodox Church marks the Feast Day of St. Catherine. She lived in Alexandria in the late 3rd and early 4th centuries and was considered one of the most educated women of her time.

In Bulgaria, St. Catherine is known as the patron saint of mothers. On this day, women prepare cakes smeared with honey and give them to loved ones - to prevent disease and bring health and well-being.

People named Ekaterina, Katerina, Katya celebrate today.
