Bulgaria's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Palestine Riyad Al-Maliki have signed an Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Education, Science, Culture, Youth and Sports between the Governments of the Republic of Bulgaria and Palestine.

Preparation is also underway for signing a cooperation agreement between the two countries' chambers of commerce. In 2019, Bulgarian exports to Palestine were worth $ 800,000, and for the first half of 2020 - $ 400,000.

Minister Zaharieva assured her counterpart that Palestine was included as a priority country in Bulgaria's Medium-Term Program for Official Assistance in the field of Education for the period 2020-2024. Zaharieva pointed out that so far 5,000 Palestinians have graduated from Bulgarian universities.
For his part, Riyad al-Malki expressed gratitude for Bulgaria's support, which assists Palestinian students at Bulgarian universities with scholarships.
Ekaterina Zaharieva and Riyadh al-Maliki also discussed the Middle East peace process. Zaharieva testified to the importance that Bulgaria attaches to relations with Palestine and Israel and to finding a peaceful solution to the conflict between them. "We are friends of both countries. I believe that Bulgaria can play an important role as a friend of both," Zaharieva added.
