Since its inception in 2005, the European Night of Museums has attracted a large audience, and more and more museums and galleries are joining the initiative. Its goal is wider access for people to the exhibits, but also the preservation of works of various arts.
In 2019, a total of 3,200 museums from 30 European countries took part in the event. In Bulgaria, since 2006, the event has been organized by the French Institute in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Sofia Municipality. This year's edition was scheduled for May 18, but restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic led to its rescheduling for November 14.
The map of the event includes 27 museums and galleries in the capital, which will open their doors free of charge and during extended working hours. As the epidemic is still here, the organizers assure that the visit to the sites will be carried out in compliance with all anti-epidemic measures.
