Sofia is expecting its strongest marathon with the participation of runners from the world's elite. The many canceled competitions around the world gave them an impetus to join the Bulgarian race, bgathletic.com reports.
The 37th edition of the Sofia Marathon will take place on Sunday (October 11) starting at 9.30 am on Battenberg Square in central Sofia.
One of the main contenders is Kenyan Jonathan Maiyo with a personal best from a marathon of 2 hours and 4 minutes. Among women, the most expected runner is the 32-year-old Japanese Haruka Yamaguchi with a personal result of 2.26:35.
The organizers from "Sofia - European Capital of Sport" decided to set aside one lev for each participant in the marathon for the construction of a sports ground for children with autism, as the terrain has already been designated and provided free of charge.
