Bulgaria has recalled its ambassador to Belarus for consultations, Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva has announced.  At the GLOBSEC 2020 forum in Bratislava, Zaharieva talked with one of the leaders of the opposition in Belarus - Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, BTA reported.

Zaharieva said the Bulgarian ambassador to Minsk, Georgi Vassilev, had handed a note to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry that he had been recalled for consultations in Sofia. This is a sign of solidarity with Poland and Lithuania, after Belarus asked them to reduce their missions in Minsk and they recalled their ambassadors. They were followed by other EU countries.
Zahareva called on the authorities in Minsk to release all political prisoners immediately and unconditionally and to hold new, free and fair elections.
