Today President Rumen Radev will be guest of honour at the ceremony marking the start of the new academic year at the University of Veliko Turnovo Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius.

The ceremony begins at 11 AM in front of the monument to Saints Cyril and Methodius, after which the Bulgarian head of state will address the students, lecturers and representatives of the academic community.

President Radev and Rector Prof. Hristo Bondzholov will officially inaugurate an interactive tuition lab for disadvantaged students.

Almost 4,000 first-year students – bachelors and masters of art, and post graduate students, will join the big family of the University of Veliko Turnovo, the university has announced.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic not all students in Bulgaria will be welcomed with an academic ceremony. In many universities the academic year will begin in remote tuition mode, others, like the University of National and World Economy are combining in-person lectures with distance learning.
