“Intellectuals need to be in the front line of the protests,” said writer Stefan Tsanev for the BNR. Yesterday, Stefan Tsanev was awarded the “Golden Plume” for his contribution to Bulgarian culture and art.

In his words the anti-government protests repel intellectuals for two reasons – they do not approve of the “somewhat unaesthetic methods” like egg-throwing and they do not accept the lack of any prospect, as it is not clear what will follow.

“There is no other way but for the young people who were born free and uninfected by slavery to take the helm of the country,” Stefan Tsanev said, and added that the country needs a new left-wing party, that will not carry the burden of sins of the old party
