Bilateral issues should not be part of the negotiating framework for EU enlargement, German Ambassador to North Macedonia Anke Holstein said on the occasion of the Bulgarian memorandum sent to the EU, concerning good neighborly relations between Bulgaria and North Macedonia, BNR has reported.

Holstein has told Radio Free Europe that bilateral problems must be resolved bilaterally. Bulgaria has always been a strong supporter of closing the distance between the Western Balkans and Europe, including North Macedonia. It is not in Bulgaria's interest to block EU enlargement process in the region, she added. The first goal for the German presidency of the EU is to hold the first intergovernmental conference with North Macedonia, probably in December, the diplomat also said.
