Vice-President: Money earmarked for measures to address Covid-19 crisis should create jobs

The money earmarked by the EU for measures to address the Covid-19 crisis should drive economic growth, create new jobs and be distributed fairly and reasonably. These funds alone are not a panacea, Bulgaria’s Vice-President Iliana Yotova said at the traditional autumn cocktail party of the French-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on occasion of the new business season, the Presidency announced on its web site.
As for the difficulties businesses are facing amid the coronavirus pandemic, Iliana Yotova pointed out that Europe and the rest of the world were not prepared for a crisis of such dimension. “More than ever, we need to rethink the role of the national economies, the economic ties within the EU and the development of own production”, Vice-President Yotova pointed out.

Bulgaria reports 163 new cases of Covid-19

163 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours out of 5,090 PCR tests performed. 3.2% of the PCR tests returned positive for coronavirus infection. The number of newly-registered cases is highest in Sofia - 36, followed by Blagoevgrad - 19 and Varna - 14 cases, data of the Single Coronavirus Information Portal show. 746 people are receiving treatment in hospital, 55 of whom in intensive care.

145 patients have recovered from the virus and 4 people died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 706 people. A total of 996 medics have been diagnosed with Covid-19 so far.”

Minister Krasen Kralev after recovering from Covid-19: Measures must be observed, we must learn to live life differently

“I can’t say I haven’t taken the virus seriously. I have been observing absolutely all anti-epidemic measures since the start, but I have also done my duty as cabinet minister. And that includes meeting different people and going to public events which has its risks,” said Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev for Nova TV and added: “You never know where you might get infected. Many people are carriers of the virus without having any symptoms, so they can infect people around them without knowing.”

In case of suspicion of Covid-19 the triage coordination centre at the hospital of infectious diseases admits patients without referral

Patients can go to the new centre without referral from their GPs, said Health Minister Kostadin Angelov during question time in parliament. This measure is being taken, just as the new centre was set up so as to put an end to the practice of patients with flu symptoms or suspicion of Covid-19 having to go to and wait in front of the surgeries of their GP.
“The centre was set up on a functional principle, where patients with suspicion of Covid-19 from two districts – Sofia city and Sofia region - are assessed and treated,” Minister Angelov explained.

Assoc. Prof. Andrey Chobanov: There is still no adequate flu vaccine

“I am a great supporter of vaccines as such, but there is no adequate flu vaccine as yet. The vaccine that is on sale has no effect on the organism,” said Assoc. Prof. Andrey Chobanov from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Microbiology for the BNR. In his words “the only good thing about it is that it is absolutely harmless and contains practically nothing. We have been waging this battle for years. I advise anyone who doubts my words to go to the European Commission site where they will see that millions are spent on developing flu vaccines”.
