Bulgaria reports 96 new cases of Covid-19

96 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours out of 3,402 PCR tests performed, data of the Single Coronavirus Information Portal show. Most new cases have been confirmed in Sofia- 25, followed by Blagoevgrad-16, Plovdiv- 8, Dobrich- 8 and Smolyan- 8. Six people have died of Covid-19 and 40 patients have recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours. 743 patients are receiving medical treatment in hospitals, 74 of whom in intensive care units. The total number of Covid-19 cases in Bulgaria rose to 15,227. There are 4,360 active cases.

Minister of Sports Krasen Kralev tests positive for Covid-19

Bulgaria’s Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev has been tested positive for Covid-19. Minister Kralev is now on annual leave and has not been recently in contact with employees of the Bulgarian Ministry of Youth and Sports and with members of this country’s cabinet. Minister Kralev is in good health condition and does not need hospital treatment. That is why he will be placed under quarantine only.

Pediatrician: Children with chronic diseases should stay at home

Parents of children with oncologic, rheumatic and kidney diseases, as well as with connective tissue disease are recommended to leave them home and pay more attention to their health, pediatrician Dr. Plamen Maslarski said in an interview for Nova TV. In his words, children become infected wit Covid-19 in the same way as adults, but Covid-19 cases in children are less severe than those in adults. There is still no reliable data on whether children are more contagious than adults and whether the concentration of coronavirus in their respiratory tract is higher. More clarity will be brought after the end of the study with 6,000 children- children who were in contact with Covid-19 patients, kids who were not in contact with infected people, children with or without chronic diseases.

Public places in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia disinfected on Sunday

Some public places in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia have been disinfected in the early hours of Sunday. High risk areas, street corners, bus stops and underpasses have been subject to disinfection, the Sofia Health Inspectorate announced. Teams of disinfection companies worked in ten residential districts-Kremikovtsi, Triaditsa, Mladost, Ovcha Kupel, Serdika, Poduene, Slatina, Izgrev, Ilinden and Nadezhda. They also disinfected bus stops and street corners along Samokovsko Shose Avenue, Racho Kazandhziyata street and the southern section of Sofia Ring Road.

Two more people from Yambol-based company infected with Covid-19

Eleven employees of a Yambol-based company have been already diagnosed with coronavirus infection. The latest two cases- a forty-five-year-old woman and a thirty-three-year-old man remain under home care. The results of the Covid-19 tests of the rest of the employees will be ready on Monday.

Hospital in Dobrich to ban entry to visitors

The multi profile hospital in Dobrich is to ban entry to visitors. The ban enters into force on Monday, the procurator of the hospital Dr. Georgi Zhelyazkov announced. “We are planning to ban the access of people who accompany the patients to our hospital and help them buy food, clothes and sanitary materials, in order to limit the spread of coronavirus infection”, Dr. Zhelyazkov said. The relatives of the patients will probably be able to visit them one hour a day. Patients admitted to the emergency department may only be accompanied by one person.

Vehicles formed four-kilometer line at Danube Bridge 2 border checkpoint near Vidin at the exit. The congestion is due to the travel restrictions adopted in Serbia due to the coronavirus epidemic and the end of the summer holiday season when many Bulgarians working in Western European countries are leaving Bulgaria, Lubomir Nizamov, Executive Director of the facility explained.
