The fire in Sakar Mountain next to the Bulgaria-Turkey border has been extinguished, after raging for four days, BNT reports.

More than 200 people – volunteers, firefighters, forestry workers, soldiers, as well as a military helicopter joined the efforts to put out the fire.

The fire spread to over 5,000 hectares of farmland, pastures and woodland. Two villages were evacuated. No people have been reported injured. The damage inflicted is yet to be calculated. The fire was caused by a live cigarette end thrown from a truck by its driver.

Nine fire trucks are on standby. The state of disaster declared because of the fires in the municipalities of Haskovo, Svilengrad, Harmanli, Topolovgrad and Dimitrovgrad, remains in place.
