Sofia has dawned after the 21st day of anti-government protests with blockade of two major thoroughfares - on Eagle's Bridge and on Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. near the Presidency. Protesters call for the resignation of the government, prosecutor general Ivan Geshev and machine voting.
Protesters have put up tents at the thoroughfares. The director of Sofia Police Directorate, senior commissioner Georgi Hadjiev, has personally talked to the protesters and called on them not to block the traffic as they prevent other citizens from going to work, BNT reports. Minutes ago at a briefing, Hadjiev has warned that today he expects serious problems with traffic in the capital and that there is a risk of physical clashes between protesters and other citizens.
At the blocked intersection of Eagle's Bridge (Orlov most) in Sofia, the protesters allow the passage of ambulances only, but not of cars and public transport buses. The lines of the public transport in Sofia operate with changed routes, the BNR reports.
Yesterday's protest has been the largest until now now since the start of the wave of civil disobedience in the country that has been going on for 21 days now, reporters of the BNR announce.
There were protests also in a number of cities in the country - Varna, Plovdiv, Burgas, Ruse and others.
On Wednesday, July 29, there were protests of Bulgarians also in London and Cologne, and for this Sunday - August 2, protests of Bulgarians are planned to take place in Vienna, London, Berlin, Oslo, Madrid, Prague, Montreal, Toronto and Athens, bTV reports.
