Today is the day of Saint Marina, patron saint of water

On 17 July Orthodox Christians honour the Holy Great Martyr Saint Marina.

In folklore belief in Bulgaria, the saint is called Fiery Marina and symbolizes celestial fire. She is the patron saint of harvests, fields and sowing. On this day a bonfire is lit and people jump over the flames. Saint Marina is the patron saint of the town of Sozopol on the Black Sea, and of water. Today is the name-day of all people called Marin, Marina, Marinela.
