Over the next 18 months, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) will insist that the minimum wage should reach 400 euros and the average wage - 871 euros. According to the union, these are completely achievable goals.
Despite the double-digit wage growth in recent years, figures show that incomes in Bulgaria remain the lowest in the EU. Income inequalities are deepening, with a decreasing number of people concentrating more and more of the total national income.
In 2000, the richest Bulgarians owned 1.54 billion euros, and now the wealthiest members of Bulgarian society dispose of 12 billion euros of the total income in the economy, according to CITUB.
According to the National Social Security Institute, the average insurance income for May 2020 is 545 euro.
