Industrial production in Bulgaria continues to decline: Eurostat

In May 2020 industrial production in the EU increased with 11.4%, thus making up for some of the collapse registered in the previous two months caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, industrial production in Bulgaria in May continued to decline. It fell 0.1% as compared to April, data of Eurostat show. In March and April industrial production in Bulgaria shrank by a total of 16.7% due to the coronavirus pandemic. In May 2020 industrial production fell 16.1% as compared to May 2019. Bulgaria’s industry cannot overcome the crisis due to the ongoing crisis in exports which declined 21.4% in May 2020 as compared to May last year. Exports of fuels, machines and car parts are most affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
