Seaside folklore festival in Bulgaria’s Kiten brings together artists from all over the country

"Wonderful summer evenings await us, filled with songs, dances and the sea breeze," says the folk singer from the Strandzha region, Zlatka Stavreva, artistic director of the upcoming music and dance festival entitled Folklore Pletenitsa. Ensembles, choirs, dance groups and clubs, as well as individual performers from all over the country will take part in it. Most of them are amateur performers and present original folklore from their home places, which promises a real holiday for connoisseurs of authentic folk art.

The event will take place from July 8 to 12th among the greenery of one of the parks in the town of Kiten on the Black Sea coast. It is not of a competitive nature and there is no participation fee, and details about the program are presented by Zlatka Stavreva:

"The idea for this music and dance festival came to me during the lockdown when it became clear that some of the planned international events would be cancelled. The Magda Pushkarova Folklore Ensemble and the Trakia Women's Folk Choir at the Petko Voivoda Thracian Society in Varna, led by Kalina and Georgi Germanovi, will take part in the festival. Even several bands will come from Divdyadovo (a neighbourhood in the city of Shumen). Among the participants is a very interesting male folklore group "Rhodope Song" from the Razgrad village of Seydol (Northeast Bulgaria).

Their female folklore group arrives, as well as the two sisters Vasfie and Inka Bakalov, who sing superbly. The repertoire of the group for authentic folklore from the village of Belovets in the municipality of Kubrat (Northeast Bulgaria), led by Milena Pencheva, as well as the singing boys' group "The Pride of Sredishte" (Silistra region), dance school "Veleka" from Burgas are interesting. “

There will be also many more ensembles - from Pavlikeni, Sliven, Galabovo, Chirpan, from villages in Northern Bulgaria, individual performers, graduates of Assoc. Prof. Binka Dobreva from Sofia will participate.

“We, in the Strandzha region, have a unique folklore, but we look forward to meeting the beauty of folk art from other regions of Bulgaria. Creativity is the best way to fully communicate, so I hope all participants will feel happy from this meeting!”, Zlatka Stavreva says
