No state guarantees and binding contracts for Belene NPP

Bulgaria will not provide state guarantees for the Belene NPP project, nor will it conclude long-term contracts for the purchase of electricity, Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova has told BNT.

On the question whether the European Commission should re-approve the project documents due to expired permits, Minister Petkova pointed out that this was not an obligation of the state, but of the future investor. The Bulgarian state is obliged to notify the European Commission 3 months before the first contracts with suppliers.

The Minister firmly said the choice of a strategic investor for the construction of the plant had not been made in advance despite signed memorandum with Rosatom, General Electric and Framatome.
