Bulgaria is still coping well with pandemic

Covid-19 continues to exist and it is deadly. Nobody knows what would happen in the autumn. In addition to Covid-19, there will be seasonal flu, too, Dr Skender Syla, WHO Representative for Bulgaria has told NovaTV. When we have small outbreaks in more regions of the country, the number of infected is growing and this is happening not only in Bulgaria but also in Europe after the easing of measures. This is the start of the new normal and we must be disciplined and responsible. This is the key to preventing a new spread. If we compare the total number of cases based on 100, 1,000 or 1 million people, Bulgaria is still doing very well compared to other countries in the world, the WHO representative added.

Doctors call for health protocol-algorithm for patients with coronavirus

The Bulgarian Medical Association has called on the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance Fund to introduce an accurate protocol-algorithm in relation to patients with possible coronavirus infection. All patients must be pre-tested with a PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 before going to hospital. It is not right for the for tests to be paid by the hospitals or by patients, Dr. Stoyan Borisov, Secretary General of the Bulgarian Medical Association, has told BNR. He explained that none of the tests that are carried out give a 100% guarantee, but the screening will protect hospitals from the epidemic, because if the coronavirus spread to hospitals, it would create difficulties to the health-care system.

Total of 4625 cases of Covid-19 in Bulgaria since beginning of pandemic

The new cases of Covid-19 in Bulgaria for the past 24 hours are 112 after 1,528 PCR tests performed, according to the data of the Unified Information Portal. The total number of registered cases of coronavirus infection since beginning of the epidemic is 4,625. out of these, 1934 cases are still active. There are 423 patients in medical institutions as 20 are in intensive care units. 2475 people have recovered as those who recovered in the past day were 18. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 216 Covid-19 patients passed away. A 78-year-old woman with coronavirus other diseases passed away in the past day. At this stage, no increase in anti-epidemic measures in the country is envisaged, Minister of Health Kiril Ananiev said.

New cases of coronavirus in Bulgaria

12 workers from the railway car repair plant in the town of Septemvri, near Pazardzhik have tested positive for Covid-19. The people are from 8 villages in the municipality. Persons who were in contact with them are under quarantine. Covid-19 was also registered in a kindergarten in Sofia. Mother and child tested positive. No one is infected among the staff at the 185th kindergarten in the Druzhba quarter, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova told BNR. On June 29, the kindergarten will be closed for disinfection. Because of two raspberry pickers who returned from Belgium with positive tests to the village of Zvezditsa, Omurtag municipality, gathering of more than three people there was banned. Because of the pandemic, by mid-July, mass events are banned in 5 villages in the municipality of Isperih.

Mayor Fandakova: We aim at normal life in Sofia despite Covid-19

It is clear, unfortunately, that Sofia is the city with the biggest number of newly infected. Experts say the infection cannot be localized and that is why we need stricter control and we must rely on the discipline citizens, mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova has told the BNR. Thankfully, most cases are either mild or asymptomatic, which allows hospitals in Sofia to cope with the situation. Our major goal is for the healthcare system to remain stable, for doctors and staff to be able to cope and protect themselves. The other goal is to limit the infection and at the same time keep life in the city normal, Fandakova added. The mayor predicts that the crisis would call for an update of the capital city budget.
