Notifying EU about Belene NPP is investor’s obligation

Bulgaria is not in a situation when it is necessary to send to the European Commission a new notification for the completion of the Belene NPP project.

Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova has told bTV that Sofia has no obligation to notify Brussels of the current stage of the Belene NPP project because the procedure was only an intention and it was unknown how it would end. The tender for an investor could end successfully, or it could be unsuccessful, Minister Petkova added.

The investor is committed to notifying the European Commission, as NEK did in 2007 and approval was obtained for the project, which was then suspended in 2012, the Minister also said.
