Bulgaria’s National Assembly has regulated the use of electric scooters via the amendments that were approved to the Road Traffic Act. Thus, electric scooters become official participants in road traffic. Drivers of electric scooters are obliged to use the built bicycle infrastructure. In areas without bicycle infrastructure, they must drive as close to the right border of the traffic lane as possible. The use of electric scooters on sidewalks is prohibited. The maximum speed limit is restricted to 25 kilometers per hour.
The Bulgarian National Assembly also ruled that taxi cars are no older than 15 years.
