Monitoring report sheds light on problems in fight against corruption

The annual monitoring report of the Anti-Corruption Fund for 2019 has been released, analyzing key investigations from recent years.

“The conclusions in the report demonstrate the inadequacy of the fight against high-level corruption,” said Andrey Yankulov, one of the authors of the analysis, for the BNR.

In his words out of the 40 cases analyzed, 3 have ended in convictions and 7 – in acquittals. Almost a quarter of the cases spend a long time in the pre-litigation stage, or there is simply no information to be had regarding the stage reached in the legal proceedings. The report also points out that the cases, about which any information is given and what kind of information, are cherry-picked .
