The traditional culture of every nation has preserved the so-called alternative (natural) methods of treatment. When official medicine does not help, people resort to the alternative methods hoping that the wisdom of their ancestors is stronger than anything. There are even people who completely trust phytotherapy. There is a huge variety of medicinal plants in Bulgaria which are systematized in scientific manuals. According to scientists, more than 3,600 herbs grow in Bulgaria. Some of them are picked every year for the manufacture of medicinal products.
Since time immemorial Bulgarian herbalists come out at dawn on Enyovden to pick blossoming medicinal plants- thyme, wild geranium, St. John’s wort, centaury, goose-grass, etc. According to folk beliefs, medicinal herbs are at their most potent on Enyovden. However, practice shows that there is a specific moment in which the medicinal properties of a given herb are strongest.
The herbs that are most beneficial to our health are the herbs that come from the region we live in, says Dr. Georgi Velev, who has been making products out of medicinal plants for years. You can learn more about the medicinal plants in our lands and their application in the following article from Radio Bulgaria’s archives.
