Covid-19 in Bulgaria: Day 107

Wearing of face masks becomes mandatory again in indoor public places

On 00.00 am on June 23, wearing of face masks becomes mandatory again in indoor public places, Bulgaria’s Minister of Health Kiril Ananiev announced on Monday. The measure is undertaken due to the increased number of Covid-19 cases. Indoor events will be limited to 50% of the attendee capacity. Wearing of masks, helmets or other protective equipment becomes mandatory as well at these premises. The measure applies to night clubs, cinemas, theaters and sports events. A maximum of 1,000 spectators will be admitted on each sector during football games. People are required to keep a physical distance of 1.5 meters from each other in shops and shopping malls. The authorities are to decide until the end of the week whether the emergency epidemic situation in Bulgaria will continue.

Mass control over compliance with anti-epidemic measures begins

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov convened a working meeting in the Council of Ministers with the National Operational Headquarters on the current situation with Covid-19. The spread of coronvavirus was discussed and it was reported that the situation was being monitored very closely and mass control starts over compliance with anti-epidemic measures. The Covid-19 danger is not over and for the fight against the coronavirus to be successful the most important thing is observing physical distance, discipline and strict disinfection, PM Borissov pointed out. 

Supreme Administrative Prosecutor’s Office approaches Premier Borissov over measures against Covid-19

The Supreme Administrative Prosecutor’s Office has also referred the matter to this country’s Health Minister Kiril Ananiev and the Head of the National Coronavirus Headquarters General Mutafchiyski. The Supreme Administrative Prosecutor’s Office calls on them to assess the effectiveness of the current anti-epidemic measures and the possible need for other measures to contain the Covid-19 epidemic.  in connection with the drastic increase in the number of infected people in the past two weeks, the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor’s Office expect the competent authorities to assess the organization and control of the anti-epidemic measures already in place and provide immediate information about their findings.

Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov tests positive for coronavirus

The best Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov has coronavirus. The news was announced by the athlete on his Instagram account. Dimitrov withdrew from the Adria Tour immediately after his loss in the first match of the tournament. The District Crisis Headquarters in Haskovo called on all people who were in contact with Dimitrov to undergo voluntary quarantine. Bulgaria’s tennis player was in his home town of Haskovo on June 16 and 17. His coach Chris Gro also tested positive for Covid-19.

No coronavirus-related deaths in past 24 hours

There were 33 new registered cases of coronavirus infection in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, according to the Unified Information Portal. This is 84 people less in comparison to the previous day, with just over 560 tests carried out.The total number of registered infections so far has reached 3905 people and 2074 have recovered. 47 people recovered during the past 24 hours. The total number of patients with coronavirus who passed away since the beginning of the epidemic is 199, as no one passed away during the past 24 hours.

Clergyman from Kostievo tests positive for Covid-19

Another clergyman who attended the meeting of evangelical preachers in the town of Perushtitsa tested positive for Covid-19. A team of the Regional Health Inspectorate tested today the child of the clergyman from Kostievo who is visiting a kindergarten together with 40 other children. Tests for Covid-19 will be made of its teachers as well, the District Governor of Plovdiv Dani Kanazireva announced. However, access to the church where clergyman Alexander was serving was suspended. The two places will be disinfected thoroughly.

Cherry pickers being hired from quarantined neighborhood in Kyustendil

A total of 200 people from the Romani neighborhood of Iztok in Kyustendil, which has been closed since June 19th due to the large number of infected people there, will be allowed to take part in cherry picking. The neighborhood is surrounded by checkpoints and all measures are being taken to limit the infection, said Kyustendil Regional Governor Viktor Yanev. According to his data, 14 cases were reported for the past 24 hours, which is less than the previous days and gives hope that the infection is under control. Chairman of the local "Vasil Levski" community center Petar Igov said that quarantine measures were harsh and illegal and he would contest them in court.

Coronavirus postpones repayment of 10% of loans

Banks have deferred 10% of their loan portfolios following a moratorium on loan payments introduced on April 10. The measure was taken after approval by the European Central Bank and the Bulgarian National Bank - BNB in support of citizens and companies in difficult situation because of the coronavirus. The deadline for applications for loan deferral is June 22. Approved applications are 80,300 with total gross amount of EUR 3.1 billion. According to BNB data, consumer loans were most often deferred.

GERB and BSP to be fined 1,500 euros each for violating the anti-epidemic measures

GERB and BSP parties will be fined by the Sofia Health Inspectorate about 1,500 euros each for violating the anti-epidemic measures ordered by the Minister of Health. The parties allowed many people to gather indoors without keeping the required distance. An administrative violation act was handed to the director of the national stadium "Vasil Levski" because of the Levski - CSKA Sofia derby on June 20, which was held under poor organization and there was violation of the mandatory distance between fans.
