“Roads of Balkan Icon-Painters”, a book tracing artistic influences in the Balkans

The book “Roads of Balkan Icon-Painters” has been released as part of the national prorgamme “Cultural and historical heritage, national memory and social development”, the Ministry of Education and Science has announced.

The aim is to demonstrate the wealth of the Balkan artistic heritage from the post-Byzantine period in church monumental painting in 29 churches and their frescoes located in what is now Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia and Albania. The focus is on the frescoes’ connection with other Balkan monuments and allows for the movement of artistic influences to be traced along the roads taken by icon painters.
