Bulgaria is among most energy-independent countries in EU

Bulgaria is in the top five of the most energy independent countries in the EU by 2018, according to Eurostat. Bulgaria's energy dependence has decreased for the period 2000-2018 - from 50% to a little over 45%. On average for the EU, energy dependence is 58%. 

The Bulgarian economy remains dependent on coal, which accounts for 1/3 of the country's energy mix for 2018 and on oil with a share of 25%. Nuclear energy accounts for 22%, natural gas for 14%, and renewable energy - for just over 13 % of the energy mix. 
 
According to Eurostat statistics, Bulgaria is the country in the EU with the lowest electricity prices for households.
