“The coronavirus changed the rules in the tourist business but the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism failed to react in time with anti-crisis measures,” said Ilin Dimitrov, chairman of the Varna Chamber of Tourism for Radio Varna.

In his words if it wants to come out of the crisis in the tourist industry, Bulgaria can use positive messages like the one that it is the least affected country by the coronavirus, compared to the other countries of Europe. According to Ilin Dimitrov the new situation is also an opportunity for Bulgaria to shift the focus of its tourist product towards the more well-off tourists and to improve its quality, to advertise itself more as a spa and wellness destination.
