Pediatricians are recommending the introduction of a time interval for parents to take their children out in the fresh and air and sunshine in town parks and in the mountains, while observing all restrictions connected with the coronavirus epidemic.

They say they are afraid that isolation at home over a long period and limited exercise can lead to a collapse of the immunity system and neurosis.

“Good immunity in children can be built up by means of a balanced diet, walks in the fresh air and exercise,” said pediatrician Dr. Nikolina Koleva in an interview for the BNR.

"One of the factors for a good immunity is regular exercise. Also, walks outdoors, exposure to the sunlight. From a medical viewpoint, some of the biggest epidemics in the history of medicine have been fought precisely with exposure to fresh air and sunlight, that's why isolating children at home does not have a good effect", the specialist says.

Reduced physical activity and limited exposure to sunlight inevitably leads to a collapse in the immune system of children, is the opition of the head of the pediatric ward of the hospital in Dobrich, Dr. Yonvcho Yovev. He thinks parks should be open for children in certain time intervals.

After a long period at home, children will get sick more often, says Dr. Yanitsa Radeva. "Most of the children live in apartments, with no access to fresh air and direct sunlight", Dr. Radeva says, adding that allowing children to visit parks will be a very good option for them.
