Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Krasimir Karakachanov is to be fined EUR 150 for violating the measures for containing COVID-19, announced Georgi Hadzhiev, director of the Sofia Police department.

A member of the public took a photograph of Krasimir Karakachanov as he was sitting smoking on a park bench next to his public relations officer. Krasimir Karakachanov stated that the bench was outside the ministry building and was not actually in the park but the police did not accept this excuse.

Until recently such violations entailed a fine of EUR 2,500 but parliament reduced the sum by force of an amendment to the state of emergency act.
