Parliament cancels session over COVID-19

The parliamentary session on 2 April which was supposed to discuss the update of the national budget has been cancelled.

The parliamentary groups did not approve the proposal to hold the session remotely. According to the opposition the constitution explicitly states that the MPs have to be present “in person” in the plenary hall. The option of holding the sessions in another, bigger hall is being discussed, where the MPs will be 2 metres away from one another as required during the coronavirus epidemic. The parliamentary crisis was triggered by the fact that an opposition MP was infected with COVID-19, and all of his colleagues were tested.
