Executive Director of the National Tourism Board Polina Karastoyanova has announced that the industry called on Prime Minister Boyko Borissov to form a national economic headquarters responsible for the preparation of a one-year program aimed at rescuing the sectors of tourism and transport, which are the most affected by the coronavirus crisis.
The headquarters should include all ministers with economic portfolios, as well as the finance minister. All ministers with economic spheres, including the finance minister, should participate in it. The industry expressed their willingness to provide their expertise as well as contacts at European and world level. According to Karastoyanova, the tourism business was heading towards disaster and a working economic plan for the next 12 months must be formulated in order for the tourism industry in Bulgaria to maintain its viability.
The Bulgarian Industrial Association also called for an emergency anti-crisis business council. In a letter to the Prime Minister, the chamber expressed strong concerns about its members and branch organizations because of the negative impact of the crisis on their operations. Therefore, according to BIA, there was a need for supportive national policies, in order to suppress the negative economic effects.
