The Bulgarian media accentuate today the statementof Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev who announced on Tuesday that he withdrew his confidence in Bulgaria’s government.
Dnevnik newspaper fontpages the following headline “The cold war got hot”. The article features the opinions of two renowned Bulgarian sociologists-Parvan Simeonov and Yuriy Aslanov. In Parvan Simeonov’s view, the Bulgarian President “climbs the peak of public discontent” through his statement. Yuriy Aslanov contends that President Radev bids for a second term in office.
Sega daily frontpages a headline “Rumen Radev’s dance-one step forward, two steps aside”. The newspaper comments that Bulgaria’s head of state cannot win supporters with loud words only and without any real actions. Sega admits that Radev wins public sympathy with yesterday’s statement demonstrating that he is completely breaking off with the ruling clique. The newspaper reminds the statement of the Bulgarian President that “All this must be put an end to”, but meanwhile notes that Radev does not give a satisfactory answer to the questions: How this will be done and what is next?
In an interview for 24 Chassa daily President Georgi Parvanov commented: “the war between the institutions erodes confidence in them” and does not show Bulgaria to the world and the foreign investors in a positive light. Parvanov reminded that during the ten years in office as President of Bulgaria (2002-2012) he also had clashes with the ruling parties. However, he contends that in his relation with the Bulgarian cabinets, he never crossed the permissible limits and he could always talk to the Prime Minister.
Remen Radev’s predecessor was much more critical. In Rosen Plevneliev’s view, the General-President needs war, because he does not have a cause and has declared a war on the government to prevent Bulgaria from joining the Eurozone.
The media also quotes the opinion of the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Kornelia Ninova who completely shares the motifs of President Radev to withdraw confidence in the cabinet headed by Boyko Borissov. She noted that BSP used the same motifs to initiate a no-confidence vote against the government last week. Later, the Bulgarian National Assembly rejected the no-confidence motion. Ninova called on all those who want change to unite.
