The project for renovation of Saint Nedelya Square downtown Sofia of Italian Architect Massimiliano Fuksas is unsuitable for the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, priest Kiril Popov who serves at the Saint Nedelya church said at a discussion at the Union of Architects in Bulgaria. The project interrupts church life in our temple which turns into a church-museum with huge pavement around, which is unacceptable, father Popov pointed out. The lack of access to the temple by vehicles, including ambulances, is also unacceptable. The access to the temple from the nearby Sofia Holy Bishopric, home of Patriarch Neophyte, is also closed.

Saint Nedelya Church is among the most popular religious, cultural and historical monuments in Sofia. The Orthodox temple was built in the 10th century. Once, important road arteries connecting the eastern and the western gate of the city passed nearby the church.
