In order for the proposed EU Mechanism on the Rule of Law to be successful, it must be objective and double standards should be removed, Vice President Iliana Yotova said at the opening of a conference in the European Parliament on the topic of 12-Year Cooperation and Verification Mechanism in Bulgaria. Yotova pointed out the undisputed role of monitoring Bulgaria, but pointed out some of its defects - the lack of clear enough criteria for assessing progress and politicizing control checks, such as the case of Bulgaria's failure to enter Schengen.
