The Bulgarian National Radio Big Band conducted by Antoni Donchev begins its new music season with a concert on October 24 at Sofia Live Club. David Linx is a soloist of the BNR Big Band. Mr Linx is a jazz vocalist, composer, author of lyrics and arrangements who holds concerts in all parts of the globe. His music repertoire includes his author’s compositions, as well as specially selected arrangements and pieces by other authors, which match his voice and meet his understanding of contemporary, beautiful, emotional and inspiring music. In an interview for Radio Bulgaria David Linx describes himself as a performer for whom jazz is not old fashioned, but is rather a music that can express everything that happens nowadays.
David Linx was born in Brussels and took up music at an early age. David started with percussions first and worked in the band of the American jazz singer Mark Murphy who encouraged him to work with his voice as well. Since 1993 David has been lecturing at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and is a permanent guest-lecturer at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He appeared on the music stage for the first time in 1980. David Linx partners with many musicians over the years – Johnny Griffin, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Toots Thielemans, Mino Cinelu, Philippe Catherine, Erik Truffaz, Aka Moon band, Billy Cobham, Andy Sheppard, The Count Basie Orchestra, etc. In 2005, he was awarded the Best European Jazz Musician by the Jazz Academy. He won several European awards – Victories De La Musique (European Grammy Awards) for best album of jazz vocalist. In 2013 David Linx was awarded Les Octaves de la Musique (Belgian Grammy’s) for Best Jazz Album of the Year.
