90% of fitness industry in Bulgaria controlled by intermediaries

The world trend for penetration of intermediaries in the fitness industry is also in force for Bulgaria. Unlike developed markets where their penetration does not exceed 5%, in Bulgaria within 3 years they have captured 90% of the market. This could lead to bankruptcies of small fitness halls, says Petar Angelov, chairman of the Bulgarian Association for Health and Fitness. According to him, pricing was dictated by intermediaries, as their strategy was squeezing out profits of operators and buying out entire businesses, which created the opportunity for monopolization of the market. There are two main intermediaries on the Bulgarian market - Benefit Systems with their Multisport Card and Sodexo with Sport Pass Card.
