National Assembly postpones decision to reduce party subsidies

Photo: Annie Petrova

The MPs from the Bulgarian National Assembly withdrew from today’s parliamentary agenda the amendments to the law on the national budget which envisaged the reduction of the subsidy for political parties from 5.62 euro (11 Leva) down to 0.51 euro (1 Lev) per valid vote. The official reason given is that the Committee on Budget and Finance has not submitted a report to the National Assembly.

Yesterday the Committee on Budget and Finance approved, at second reading, a budget update, by force of which, as of July 1, the subsidy for parties and coalitions per one vote should have been reduced to 0.51 euro, though they would have been entitled to donations in unlimited amounts from companies and natural persons.
