Bulgaria has to deal with corruption and problems in its justice system in order to get support from the Netherlands for Schengen membership. This was what Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Stef Blok said in response to a question by BNR.

During his visit to Bulgaria, he met with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva. Among the topics discussed have been migration and security in the EU, as well as strengthening of the bilateral partnership in the context of the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the Netherlands.

The Netherlands tops the chart of direct foreign investments in Bulgaria, as in 2018 investments exceeded 1 billion euros. There are six Bulgarian schools in the Netherlands, while more 3000 Bulgarian students study in the country.
