Turkish Ambassador to Sofia Hasan Ulusoy had been summoned to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry. There the diplomat has been warned that his statement saying Bulgaria should promote studying of Turkish language as a prerequisite for increasing Turkish investments was politically unacceptable. Turkish investments cannot be tied in any way with the study of Turkish, but should be based on economic logic, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is pointed out that Turkish investors should comply with the official language of Bulgaria and that it was more appropriate to support the training of Bulgarian language teachers as foreign language learning was a matter of free choice for every Bulgarian citizen. Ulusoy said his words were misinterpreted and explained that he did not mean any recommendations for obligatory learning of Turkish language, the MFA said.
