European Commission spokesperson Mina Andreeva stated that the EC is following the real estate property scandal involving high-ranking politicians in Bulgaria spending European funding.

Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Manolev resigned over media publications that he acquired a vacation house near Sandanski for his personal use, financed under a rural development programme for guest houses.

It is not up to the European Commission to investigate the spending of European funds directly. That is up to the respective national authorities. A local investigation of this case is ongoing and we shall be monitoring the results, Mina Andreeva said.
