In a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, the Prime Minister of the UK Theresa May urged Sofia to advocate for more flexibility on the part of the EU in negotiating the question of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and in reaching a Brexit agreement by 29 March.

Boyko Borissov promised support for a withdrawal agreement that would guarantee good relations between the UK and the 27 EU members. In Borissov’s words it must guarantee security and the preservation of the high level of cooperation in this sphere, as well as the status of EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the UK.

Last but not least, the Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out that as regards the question of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, it is essential that any tension or breach of the peace be avoided.
