Bulgarian National Bank celebrates 140 years anniversary

On January 25, 140 years since the establishment of the Bulgarian National Bank in 1879 by the Russian imperial commissioner in Bulgaria, Prince Alexander Dondukov-Korsakov, is celebrated. On 6 June that same year the first bank operation took place.

The BNB is one of the oldest central banks in the world - 13th in a row, and one of the first public institutions in Bulgaria after the Liberation. Its creation precedes even the convening of the Constituent Assembly that prepared and adopted the Bulgarian Constitution.
