Matthew Boyse: Geographic position of Bulgaria makes discussion valuable and important

Several days after the visit of US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev welcomed US Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Boyse. The two discussed issues of bilateral interest as well as topics related to regional and global issues. The guest pointed out that due to its geographic position, Bulgaria has a unique view on places like the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey and Russia, which made Bulgarian interlocutors valuable and important.

Georg Georgiev thanked for the assessment and expressed the view that intense contacts were a key for better understanding of the specifics and essence of political, historical and cultural characteristics of different countries.

The Chairman of the parliamentary group of ruling GERB Party and Deputy Chairman of the party, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, also held a working meeting with Matthew G. Boyse, Deputy Assistant Secretary at U.S. Department of State and US Ambassador to Sofia Eric Rubin.

Tsvetanov and Boyse have discussed bilateral relations, pointing out the high level of cooperation in all spheres of mutual interest. The importance of Bulgaria for stability in the region and the Black Sea is also pointed out. The strengthening of the US Strategic Partnership with Bulgaria and the EU has been acknowledged as a key factor in successfully countering the attempts of third countries to destabilize the EU and the region, damaging democratic values ​​and systematically disregarding international law.

Energy security and diversification of energy sources were also discussed, it was reported
