Pope Francis expected to visit Bulgaria in May 2019

Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva told BTV that Pope Francis is expected to visit Bulgaria in May, 2019. Minister Zaharieva specified that the head of the Roman Catholic Church is planning to visit Bulgaria and Macedonia. In May this year Bulgaria’s Premier Borissov invited Pope Francis to visit Bulgaria during the audience given to the Bulgarian delegation on occasion of the Day of Slavonic Script and Bulgarian Culture May 24. This would be the second visit of the head of the Roman Catholic Church to Bulgaria. In May 2002 Pope John Paul ІІ visited Bulgaria.
