Minister Angelkova: Popularizing cultural and historical heritage has boosted tourism considerably

“Popularizing cultural and historical tourism and interaction with local communities for presenting Bulgaria’s enormous heritage in recent years has boosted this kind of tourism considerably, demonstrating its growing importance as a source of sustainable development,” said Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova at the 3rd UN World Tourism Organization/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture in Istanbul.

She added that more than 40,000 artefacts have been found in Bulgaria. Work is underway on various thematic routes - cultural, historical, wine and SPA. In Minister Angelkova’s words after eight cultural and historical destinations were created in Bulgaria tourist visits have gone up considerably. Nikolina Angelkova also presented the platform iLoveBulgaria which includes a full list of the 100 national tourist sites.
