Tens of cities and towns in Bulgaria were in a grip of mass protests and road blocks on Sunday, as thousands of people went out on streets, main roads and highways to express their dissatisfaction with high fuel prices, higher taxes on older cars and planned rise of compulsory motor third party liability insurance.

Protesters also called for on an immediate revision of remuneration MPs and senior civil servants received and said it must be linked to the minimum wage. Protesters also demanded closing of many state agencies and other institutions that people find "unnecessary" and "parasitic".
