After the resounding success of the mega show “Sinatra: Vegas” at the end of last year, pop and jazz singer Vassil Petrov will now be presenting its dazzling sequel.
On 12 November the stage of Hall No. 1 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia will be transformed into a chic 1960’s Vegas-style jazz club. Vassil Petrov’s programme features his own arrangement of songs form the repertoire of the legendary Frank Sinatra. Vassil Petrov will be sharing the stage with American blues and soul star Bruce Johnson, two Bulgarian performers – pop singer Orlin Pavlov and young singer Mihaela Fileva – and the renowned jazz musicians from the “All Starts Big Band” with conductor Antoni Donchev, as well as a ballet company in extravagant stage costumes.
“Shows in Las Vegas in those days were more than flash and glamor, they were an embodiment of pomp and ostentation - an ocean of feathers, gems, braids, sequins. The “Sinatra: Vegas 2” show will recreate the spirit of the times, and with class,” says Kremena Halvadjian, designer of the costumes. Choreographer of the show is Alex Eneva, directors – Rumen Grigorov and Alex Bornaz.
“The music is a thrilling blend of swing, jazz and Bossa Nova,” says producer Margarita Tosheva, to whom the whole idea of this project belongs. She adds that Vassil Petrov hired a helicopter for the concert at the National Palace of Culture and took his first flying lessons so as to be able to start the show with a bang. At last year’s show the “Bulgarian Sinatra”, as he is dubbed, arrived by vintage car, dressed like James Bond and to the sound of the theme music from the 007 movies.
The concert on 12 November will kick off with the “Mission impossible” theme with Vassil Petrov in the role of a special agent with a special mission. Whether he will be there on time (by air) to meet his audience is something we are yet to find out.
