The Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Greece Boyko Borissov and Alexis Tsipras signed in Evksinograd a joint declaration on developing the rail connection Thessaloniki-Kavala-Alexandroupolis-Burgas-Varna-Ruse.

The project is of strategic and economic importance and aims to develop a sustainable double railway, an electric rail corridor with a modern rail traffic management system, connecting Bulgarian with Greek ports. Its construction is part of a larger project for a multimodal freight traffic corridor connecting the Aegean with the Black Sea - Sea2Sea. The declaration also envisages the option of further developing the Alexandroupolis-Burgas road link.
