The prime ministers of Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia Boyko Borissov and Zoran Zaev took part in the celebration, in Blagoevgrad, of the 115th anniversary of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie uprising – the culmination of the national-liberation struggles of the Macedonian and Thracian Bulgarians against Ottoman domination.
The ceremony took place at the monument to Gotse Delchev, a leading Bulgarian revolutionary and national hero in Bulgaria, and in the Republic of Macedonia. This is the second time the two countries are marking the anniversary together, in performance of the Friendship, Cooperation and Good Neighbour Agreement signed by the two neighbouring countries in 2017.
One year ago today, 2 August, Republic Day in Macedonia, the two paid tribute to the memory of Gotse Delchev in Skopje on the occasion of the 114th anniversary of the outbreak of the uprising.
